The wide variety of primary and secondary sources available at the Archival Library document the history of Madison County. Visit our facility to explore our collections and work with staff to learn about the county’s people and places. The Archival Library is a single story building with a ramp at the entrance and two ADA accessible single-user all-gender restrooms. Service animals are welcome.

Some of the types of primary materials in our collections include: photographs, photograph albums, and slides; letters, postcards, and other correspondence; scrapbooks; personal genealogical research; advertising materials, calling cards, fliers, invitations, obituaries, political cards and fliers, posters, programs; and a host of other kinds of ephemera. Our holdings of 4,000 published reference sources include atlases, maps, and plat books; city directories; county, city, and town histories; school yearbooks; and other reference books. Many (but by no means all) of the items in the Archival Library are described in our Online Catalog; some catalog records include access to digitized items.
