The Madison County Historical Society hosts a number of events each year. Some, like Living History Days, occur on a regular basis. Truman Capote's "A Christmas Memory"

Spend an evening with the Alumni Players! and MCHS this holiday season.
Enjoy the Alumni Players!’s special presentation of Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory” plus holiday music and caroling, vintage stories of Christmases past from the pages of the Edwardsville Intelligencer, a Christmas quilt raffle, and…Fruitcake!
Originally published as a short story in Mademoiselle magazine in 1956, Capote’s largely autobiographical “A Christmas Memory” focused on the themes of country life, friendship, and the joy of giving. Set in the American South during the early 1930s, a young boy and his best friend, an elderly eccentric distant cousin, collect materials for fruitcakes and craft gifts.

Literary Salons
The Literary Salon is an evening of poetry and other literature read aloud, drawn from our shared culture, both historical and contemporary, by canonical and other famous writers as well as by current practitioners, unknown but to a few. The series is curated by the Historical Society and presented by its members and volunteers; the event lasts an hour and a quarter to an hour and a half.

Wine and Cheese Receptions
Join MCHS for an evening of good company, food, and drinks are you get acqainted with the latest news from MCHS in the History Museum and out in the community.
While we prepare the museum for new exhibits, MCHS Wine and Cheese Receptions will be placed on hold. Check back for news on when and where the next festivity will be held.
