Madison County Historical Society sponsors a summer history camp for children 9-12 years of age. The camp takes place mid-July and focuses on a historical theme each year. Camp participants visit local historical sites each day and engage in history-related activities. Madison County is rich in historical events from ancient times to present day.
2026: Transportation Adventures: Exploring Rivers, Routes, and Rails
The camp will be from 9AM to 3 PM on July 13 – 16, 2026 with a transportation theme. The registration fee is $200. Questions? Please contact Rachel Lewis at rllewis@madisoncountyil.gov for registration questions, 618-296-4535.
The program will include a bus tour by Madison County Transit (MCT), a riverboat ride, and a route 66 scavenger hunt. Campers will also visit the Museum of Transportation and the Arch museum.
MCHS Summer History Camp is staffed by professional teachers and educators. Transportation is on school buses with experienced bus drivers. Fee includes snacks, entry fees, and educational materials. Campers should bring a daily lunch.
