President

Fred Faust served as Vice-President of Sales for Argo Products Company, a domestic metal fabricator, where he had been employed for over 30 years before retiring in 2021. Known for his integrity and down-to-earth approach to problem solving, Fred has been a great asset to numerous community organizations including Curtain’s Up Theater Company (founding member and president for 11 years) and the Montclaire Swim Association (16 years). Fred has a deep appreciation and love of history and hopes his many contacts throughout Madison County will be an asset to the Madison County Historical Society. Fred and his wife, Cheri, have been residents of Pin Oak Township for over 25 years. They enjoy visiting their children and grandchildren who reside in various locations in the United States.

Vice-President

Robert A. Clouse is currently vice-president of MCHS and is serving as Director of Operations of the museum/library. He received his B.A. in Anthropology from Indiana State University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Illinois –Urbana. Originally from southern Indiana, he has conducted research in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois, Alabama, Spain and India. He was adjunct faculty at the Universities of Minnesota and Alabama for over 35 years. Most recently he was Executive Director of The University of Alabama Museums, a position from which he retired in 2013. Robert and his wife live in Troy, and take opportunities to travel nationally and internationally as often as practical.

Candace Ladd joined the MCHS Board in 2013 and is a past vice-president of the organization. Candace’s roots run deep in Edwardsville where the Ladd family has resided for four generations. She left Edwardsville for college in Wisconsin and has since lived in Maryland, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia and California before returning to Edwardsville in 1991. Candace received a B.A. from the University of San Francisco and an M.B.A. from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She holds a Certification in Production and Inventory Management. Her business background is as a project manager and implementation consultant for a multi-national manufacturing software company. She enjoys traveling, reading, gardening and sewing.

Penny May has resided in Edwardsville for most of her life. She grew up on the north side of town, just a few blocks from the Historical Museum. May graduated from SIUE with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. She is a lifelong member of Immanuel United Methodist church and is very involved in missions and service. She currently lives in Historic Leclaire and is a member of the Friends of Leclaire. May also serves as President of the United Women in Faith, chair of the Immanuel Finance committee, coordinator of Immanuel’s community lunch program and a volunteer at the Glen Ed Pantry with the Brown Bag Buddies summer lunch program. Her seasonal employment as a tax accountant provides the time and financial ability to give back to her community.

N. Asadorian

Norma Asadorian is descended from Armenian immigrant ancestors who settled in the historic Lincoln Place neighborhood in Granite City. She earned a BA degree from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois, where she double majored in History and in Russian and East European Studies. Subsequently, she attended SIUE where she obtained a BS degree in Education with a major in History and later an MA in History. Before her retirement in 2012, Asadorian was an award-winning secondary school teacher for 37 years. In the classroom, she taught a wide variety of social studies courses. She has continued her lifelong interest in history, languages, and archaeology as the founder and President of the Lincoln Place Heritage Association (LPHA). LPHA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the historical and cultural heritage of Granite City’s historic Lincoln Place neighborhood where she lives with her husband, Eddie Asadorian. She currently works part-time for SIUE’s Historical Studies Department where she observes and evaluates student teachers.

L. Bednar

Leslie Bednar is Executive Director of the Illinois Heartland Library System, a state-supported agency providing services to 520+ libraries in central and southern Illinois. She studied history at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, and library and information science at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. During her career Leslie has worked in historical museums, archives and libraries, all with a goal of connecting people to resources. Bednar is a resident of Troy, Illinois.

D. Bisset

Donna Caban Bisset is a native of Edwardsville. Although she lived away from the area for nearly 40 years, it has always been “home” and she is a long-time member of MCHS. She graduated from Michael Reese School of Nursing in 1972. Her husband, Kendrick, a retired railroad signal engineer and consultant, had a job that took them to locations around the country, but in 2021 they returned to Edwardsville to be near family. Bisset’s family is community-minded with a curiosity about history and a tradition of volunteerism.

B. Daiber

Bob Daiber is a lifelong resident of Madison County. He and his wife of 29 years, Karen, reside in Marine and have two grown sons, Ryan and David. Bob is a career educator who served the Triad District for 28 years as a Career and Technical teacher prior to becoming appointed to the office of Regional Superintendent of Schools in 2007. He was then elected for three consecutive terms and retired in June 2019. Bob’s public service also entailed serving as a Marine Village Trustee (1997-2001), Marine Township Supervisor (2001-2021), and Madison County Board Member (2002-2007). Bob’s family heritage for five generations is rooted deep in Madison County agriculture. Today he owns and operates a Centennial Farm in Alhambra Township.

W. Glasper

Will Glasper was appointed to the MCHS Board in August 2023, and elected to the Board in November. Glasper is a life-long resident of Madison County and currently lives in Madison. He attended schools in Madison, Lovejoy, and Venice. In 2009, Glasper retired from Anheuser Busch where he worked as a licensed electrician. In his personal life, he has served on the Venice Board of Education and on the Belleville Area College Advisory Board for Building Trades. He remains active in his community working with youth in career counseling. Glasper is also a talented musician and plays in several area bands and orchestras. He is interested in helping preserve our rich past.

S. Hansen

Stephen Hansen joined the MCHS Board in 2017 and is a past vice-president of the organization. He is now co-chair of the interpreting and educational outreach committees. He is Emeritus Dean and Professor of Historical Studies at Southern Illinois University (SIUE). Before his retirement he held a number of administrative posts at the university, most recently as Interim Chancellor. After retiring from SIUE, he continued his scholarly research and remains active as a consultant for institutions of higher education. He has provided active service in a number of capacities for various professional organizations and agencies. He has also served on the Executive Committee/Board of Directors of the National Council of University Research Administrators where in 2013 he was awarded their Distinguished Service Award. Dr. Hansen lives in Edwardsville with his wife, Julie.

J. Jatcko

John Jatcko graduated from Edwardsville High School, and then went on to SIUE where he obtained a degree in Mass Communications with a double minor in History and Marketing. Before his retirement, he was a long-time financial advisor for Edward Jones and co-owner of Prosper Advising, a fundraising and development company.

C. Manning

Carol Manning is a native of Alton, Illinois, and moved to Edwardsville in 2017 after her retirement from the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois. She served as an Education Coordinator from 2005 to 2016 where she developed lesson plans, lecture series, workshops, adult education programs, and assisted in developing procedures for facilitating school group tours. Prior to her work at the ALPLM, she worked in the Dean’s Office of the SIUE School of Business where she assisted in developing seminars, programs, and events for the Executive and Continuing Education Program. She worked for Illinois State Representative Jay Hoffman as a district office manager. She was also an adjunct instructor of political science and history at Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey and at the N.O. Nelson Center in Edwardsville. Her education is from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a Bachelor’s degree in history and political science and a Master’s degree in history. She is also a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, where she serves as president of the Madison County division and is State Historian for the Illinois State LAOH Board.

A. Meyer

Arnie was first elected to the MCHS Board of Directors in November 2006 and chosen as Treasurer in January 2010. He is a long-time resident of Highland. Arnie spent his entire professional career as an administrator at SIUE, eventually serving as Controller. He retired in 1993 and has found volunteering to be an avocation that “keeps me out of trouble.” He says, “It is a pleasure to serve on the Board of Directors of MCHS.”

S. Mudge

Stephen Mudge comes from a long line of prominent Madison County attorneys and judges who have practiced here for over 100 years. He has been an attorney for nearly 40 years with Reed, Armstrong, Mudge & Morrissey, P.C. His primary specialty is trial practice, and he also serves as a mediator and arbitrator on personal injury cases on a regular basis. His great, great grandfather, Solomon Hinckley Mudge, moved to Madison County in 1836 and the family homestead is still in the family. Steve spends a considerable portion of his off time maintaining and improving the property, where a home built in approximately 1845 still stands. Steve is a life-long history buff and enjoys outdoor work, home restoration, including barn restoration. Steve resides in Edwardsville, Illinois, and has two sons, John and Taylor.

C. Reinhardt

Cindy Reinhardt was elected to the MCHS Board in 2011. As a local historian, she is the author of two books of local history. She also writes and edits newsletters for the Madison County Historical Society and Friends of Leclaire and regularly contributes articles to numerous state and local publications. She serves on the board of the Friends of Leclaire, the Madison County Historical Society and the Illinois State Historical Society. In addition, from 2004-2018 she served on the Edwardsville Historic Preservation Commission. She is a retired SIUE book buyer and lives with her husband, Mike, in the Leclaire National Historic District in Edwardsville.

J. Skoblow

Skoblow has been an Edwardsville resident since 1987. Growing up in New York and living in Baltimore and Los Angeles, a small Midwestern town is about the last place he imagined his life unfolding– but he and his wife put down roots, raised their daughter and remain here in retirement. Skoblow taught in the English Dept. at SIUE for 31 years and published on British literature, as well as fiction and poetry. He was awarded the SIUE’s Great Teacher Award by the Alumni Association and retired as Emeritus Professor in 2018. Skoblow was an actor with the Arts League Players, ran a poetry café for teenagers and recently has been working with the Goshen Market Foundation. His retirement has given him the time to explore participation in the Madison County Historical Society, to learn, and to lend a hand.

M. Von Nida

A native of Granite City, Mark Von Nida served in various capacities in Madison County government for over 30 years. He began as a corrections officer in 1985, was an administrator in the State Attorney’s office, then was elected as County Clerk, and retired as Circuit Clerk. His experience gives him an unique perspective on Madison County history. Mark is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a graduate of SIUE. He lives with his wife Susan in the Leclaire National Historic District in Edwardsville.

Archives Librarian

As Archives Librarian, Mary Z. Rose preserves and catalogs materials at the Madison County Archival Library. She facilitates access to the Archival Library holdings through digitization and in-person assistance. Rose also fields research questions via telephone and email from clients across the United States, and even a few from other countries. Rose earned her master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She worked at a public library, law library, and university library before beginning her tenure at the Madison County Archival Library as a volunteer in 2016. She became an employee in 2017 and was promoted to her “dream job” as Archives Librarian in 2021.

Jenn catalogs and preserves the museum objects and designs interpretive exhibitions. She has a master’s degree in Historical Administration and over 15 years of curatorial experience. In her free time, Jenn enjoys spending time with family including two rambunctious dogs, playing soccer and hockey, and traveling.

The Madison County Historical Museum and Archival Library are owned and operated by the Madison County Historical Society through the generous donations of members and friends and the help of Society volunteers.
