Wood River Refinery Turns 100

The Wood River Refinery has been a major economic force for Madison County since its founding in 1917. In addition to providing jobs for the area surrounding the plant, the company started the Village of Roxana that grew to include the families of engineers, foreman, pipefitters, firefighters and others who found work at the refinery. Despite set-backs over the years that included floods, labor strikes, the Great Depression, a tornado, and more, the Wood River Refinery continues to be a valuable asset to Madison County’s economy. The company processes over 314,000 gallons of crude oil on a DAILY basis.
