Highland Man Has Lifetime of Achievement
Roland Harris, of Highland, is recognized in this issue for his significant efforts toward historic preservation. It also explores Harris’s family that includes over 200 years of accomplishment in eastern Madison County. Harris has written a column of local history for the Highland Newsleader for over 40 years, he was a founder of the Highland Historical Society and is the founder of the Highland Historical Museum that has over 7000 artifacts, most of them personally collected by Harris. In 2020, MCHS nominated Harris for the Illinois State Historical Society’s Best of Illinois History Lifetime Achievement Award. The nomination was accepted and Harris was presented with the award on July 2, 2020, his 95th birthday.
