The Emmert-Zippel House Near Six Mile Prairie
It isn’t often that a house built in 1837 has a history of only two families who owned the house, but such is the case with the Emmert-Zippel house which spent multiple generations in each family before being purchase for a museum in the 1980s. The Emmert family were early settlers in Madison County with a very eclectic history that includes financial successes and failures, a murder and more. The Zippel family who lived on an adjoining farm, purchased the Emmert house and surrounding acres in 1884. Two very different stories from two very different families make for an interesting narrative of the Emmert-Zippel House.
