Kane Legacy: Three Generations of Design
The Kane architectural firm was founded in 1912 by Michael Bernard Kane, the son of Irish immigrants. His father was a landscape designer and many of his sons and grandsons would become architects and/or draftsmen. The firm remained at the same location at the corner of Main and Vandalia for nearly a century. During that time, they designed private homes, monuments, schools, churches and more that made a significant contribution to the architectural heritage of Madison County. When the Kane offices closed, the family made a large donation of materials from the office including copies of architectural plans for many local buildings. This issue contains the personal story of the Kane family as well as a history of the business and photographs of Kane designed buildings.
