MCHS Speaker Series: The Underground Railroad in Madison County: Two Case Studies
Historian J. Eric Robinson will be the speaker for the final 2019 MCHS Speaker Series program on Sunday, October 13 at 2 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Immanuel United Methodist Church, 800 N. Main Street in Edwardsville, Illinois. His program, “Gertrude Barlabie, Amanda Kitchell and Those Who Helped Them,” tells the story of two St. Louis slaves who in 1853 escaped to freedom to Canada via the Underground Railroad of northwestern Madison County.
